The 18th Annual Support-A-Walk for breast and ovarian cancer awareness, presented by Support Connection, Inc., will take place on Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012, rain or shine, at FDR Park in Yorktown Heights, NY. It is a 3-mile walkathon held each year to bring attention to the needs of people affected by breast and ovarian cancer. Each year, thousands of people from across the Hudson Valley come together for this uplifting community event. Many participants walk in celebration of or in tribute to those affected by these diseases. Proceeds help fund Support Connection’s free support services for people affected by breast and ovarian cancer.
The Support-A-Walk was founded eighteen years ago by local residents to bring attention to the needs of people affected by breast and ovarian cancer. People travel from across the Hudson Valley and beyond to take part in this inspiring and uplifting community event. In 2011, more than 9,000 people attended. Altogether last year, there were registrants and supporters from more than 117 different municipalities in 14 different states.
Participants of all ages complete a 3-mile walk, often in honor of loved ones – a celebration of life and a tribute to those who are affected by breast and ovarian cancer. Families, friends, co-workers and teams of walkers are invited to walk together. Individuals are also welcome to participate.
