New Wing Cafeteria
The New Rochelle Fund for Educational Excellence Pancake Breakfast is back! This annual event, held right before the Thanksgiving Day parade, is one of New Rochelle’s best-loved traditions. Kids get to see their Principals wearing aprons and flipping flapjacks, parents have the chance to talk informally to school administrators and officials, and everybody has a chance to “fuel up” with all-you-can-eat pancakes, juice and coffee before dashing out to North Avenue to watch the parade kick off. It’s a great community event! Admission costs just $3 for children, students under 18 and senior citizens, $5 for adults, with proceeds benefiting the non-profit New Rochelle Fund for Educational Excellence. The New Rochelle Fund for Educational Excellence is a private, independent, not-for-profit foundation that provides educational enrichment programs to students throughout the New Rochelle School District. Among the Fund’s efforts are support for the Kaplan SAT prep program, Chess in Our Schools, Civics Week, the annual Literary Festival (where distinguished scholars discuss works by major authors), Poetry Out Loud, and the Museum of Arts & Culture, the only Regents-chartered museum in a school in the State of New York. In addition, every four years, the Fund produces a performance by students from the high school’s music programs performance at a major venue in New York City : last spring New Rochelle High School students performed at Lincoln Center.
