What do a famous folk singer, environmental consciousness and music have in common with the Hudson River? Why, its the Sloop Clearwater, of course! And, this coming weekend, celebrate the Clearwater’s mission with your Dad (or anyone for that matter) with a fantastic musical festival, Riverside. Bring your chairs and your sunscreen, and head on over to Croton Point Park, for the CLEARWATER’S GREAT HUDSON RIVER REVIVAL. This year’s theme is called “Generations”, which is very appropriate for Father’s Day Weekend. True to the theme, there will be performances of generations of folk singers.
The lineup for the festival for Saturday and Sunday is staggering. Dozens upon dozens of musical talents will take the stage, including the visionary of the Clearwater, Pete Seeger. It was Seeger’s original dream that created the Sloop, the Clearwater, and the various programs and initiatives that followed the building of the ship in 1969, which led to the cleaning of the Hudson River. In 2004, the Clearwater was even named to the National Register of Historic Places! It has been a pioneer in environmental change.
Joining Seeger will be the likes of John Sebastian, Janis Ian, the Indigo Girls, Dar Williams and Tom Chapin…among so many others. It would be hard to find someone entertaining the crowd that you don’t already know and love.
To make matters that much more festive, there will be featured food and craft vendors local to the area. Among those will be Chutney Masala Indian Bistro from Irvington, The Blue Pig from Croton, E.B.’s Golden Harvest from Yorktown, and Kechua Crafts from West Nyack…and many, many more.
