Forget Christmas in July. Tennis players in Westchester County will receive a gift that is sure to please in September- a $6 million rebuild of the Lake Isle facility in Eastchester by New York State’s leading tennis program, SPORTIME. The 8 court Lake Isle facility will be the Westchester home of the John McEnroe Tennis Academy, which has shaped some of New York’s top-ranked junior players since 2010.
SPORTIME Lake Isle will feature 8 indoor har-tru tennis courts under 3 state-of-the-art air structures and a 5,000 square foot clubhouse on two levels with superior viewing. Along with its sister facility, SPORTIME Harbor Island in Mamaroneck, SPORTIME now offers 16 beautiful indoor/outdoor soft surface tennis courts in lower Westchester within 15 minutes of each other. One low-priced membership provides access to and Membership Benefits at both facilities.
Green clay, Har-Tru or “American” clay, is similar to red clay, the differences being that it is crushed basalt rather than brick, making the surface slightly harder and faster.
Thanks to the John McEnroe Tennis Academy, Westchester County and the surrounding NY region is producing some of the country’s top tennis talents. It’s no surprise given that their team is comprised of 30 top tennis instructors, including former ATP and WTA professional players Fritz Buehning, Hana Sromova and Martina Sucha, and Assistant Academy Directors Karim Balagh, Bruce Haddad, and Nate Emge.
SPORTIME also believes that talented athletes should be encouraged to play tennis in Westchester and not be left behind due to financial constraints. Qualified and promising young players, who cannot otherwise afford JMTA participation, can receive full and partial scholarships from JMTA corporate partners. Nike and Dunlop provide JMTA students with equipment and apparel for their use, both at the Academy and in tournament play.
