Theatre is still going strong at the Tarrytown Music Hall

Tarrytown Music Hall, courtesy of Wikipedia

The Music Hall, in Tarrytown is located on Main Street downtown. It is the oldest theater in Westchester that is still being used as a theater.  In 1980 it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  Over the course of its vast history, there have been many famous performers that have graced its stage.  Most specifically, musical performers are fans of the theater due to its excellent acoustics.

While the site itself may be historic, the range of upcoming featured events showcases acts from both past and present.  Here is a listing, for spring 2012:

February 8, 2012:  THE YARDBIRDS / VANILLA FUDGE:   come out and hear these 60s institutions play some of their greatest hits.  Don’t forget to wear your tie-dyed shirts!

February 10, 2012:  CITIZEN COPE:  This show will sell out fast.  Cope (a/k/a Clarence Greenwood) has written songs performed by the likes of Santana and Richie Havens.  This one is not to be missed!

February 12, 2012:  WESTCHESTER SYMPHONIC WINDS: Come out and celebrate President Lincoln’s birthday in musical style with selections from Puccini and Madame Butterfly right down to a work called A Lincoln Portrait.

February 12 and February 25, 2012:  JOHN PINNETTE:  Need a good laugh?  Don’t miss this “stand-up” guy, delivering his humorous observations on daily life.  His recent Comedy Central show “Still Hungry” was just released on DVD.

February 15, 2012:  DREAMGIRLS:  Motion picture starring Beyonce and Jennifer Hudson.

February 16, 2012:  MATISYAHU:  Come out for this impactful young artist, whose recent single, “One Day” was featured as the official song for NBC’s 2010 Olympics Campaign.  This concert benefits Homeless and At Risk Youth.

February 18, 2012:  BOBBY COLLINS:  comedy for grown-ups.  What more can we say?

February 22, 2012:  ROBERT CRAY BAND:  If you are an R&B fan, then you know Robert Cray.  Come to the Hall to be wowed by this 5-time Grammy winner.

March 3 and March 4, 2012:  PAT BENATAR WITH NEIL GERALDO:  If you grew up in the 80s, then you know the power vocals of Benatar, and the guitar strains of her lead man (and husband) Neil Geraldo.  Come check out this Goddess of Rock music.

March 10, 2012:  TOM CHAPIN’S BIRTHDAY PARTY:  Join in celebrating Grammy winner Tom Chapin’s birthday.  Bring a donation of non-perishable food with you, to be donated to a local food bank.

March 10, 2012:  ROB BARTLETT:  comedian of “Imus” fame.  Show will be a mix of classic and new material not to be missed!

March 21, 2012:  THE LAST WALTZ:  Motion Picture – this feature film, directed by Martin Scorcese, is deemed to be “the most beautiful rock film ever made” by the NY Times.
