Izoura Maria, of Tuckahoe is a fierce competitor. She is a triathlete, and a dedicated sportswoman. She does not compete to win against human adversaries, however. She competes to win against things like Leukemia and Lymphoma, and AIDS and HIV.
We first met Izoura when she was competing to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society last year. She recently contacted us because on Sunday, December 4, 2011, Izoura will be participating in another fundraiser. She will be participating in a 3 hour Spin-a-Thon (boy, she must be in GREAT shape!), as part of “Team Last Minute”, to raise money for GMHC (Gay Men’s Health Crisis), the world’s leading provider of AIDS and HIV prevention, care and advocacy. Her friend, Jason Rizzi (originally from Westchester) put the event together, and when Izoura was asked to participate, she did not hesitate for one moment. The event itself is called “Spin to Stop the Cycle”, and will be held in commemoration of World AIDS Day, at New York Sports Club, on Mercer Street in Manhattan.
AIDS and HIV do not only affect the gay male population, but both have become an epidemic that affects many men, women and children every year. It is a tragic disease that afflicts so many families.
If you are interested in getting involved, please contact us…and of course, if you would like to make a donation to Izoura and her team, you can do so here.
