How do you cure the winter blues, and also keep up with your New Year’s goals to live a healthier lifestyle? Smoothies are a wonderful source of nutrition, can be a meal replacement, and can even fit in your veggi servings (if you are brave!).
Here is a quick recipe I just made (and drank – hence, no pictures!!), that will give you Pro-biotics, Protein and a Vitamin C punch in one package. I call it the Pro-Pro Smoothie:
32 ounces of Kefir (Kefir is a yogurty drink that contains pro-biotics. I actually used the Mango Lassi from Trader Joe’s)
1/2 pint of rinsed Blackberries
3/4 of egg whites (buy it in the carton in your refrigerated section – great source of gluten free, sugar free protein!)
1 packet of EmergenC Acai Berry powder (1000 miligrams of Vitamin C!!)
a handful of ice cubes (optional)
Blend all together in a blender until smooth. It may have to process for a few rounds to grind down the Blackberry seeds a bit. Then, pour into glasses and enjoy! Should yield 3-4 servings.
