I remember years ago, being a kid watching TV. Commercials would come on for this bunch of women who spent all their time doing good. As I recall, it was the Junior League. Now that I am a big girl, I know a lot about the Junior League. I was a member for a brief time. I have many friends who are members. And yes…they are indeed a bunch of women who do good. They spend tireless hours volunteering and fundraising to sustain programs in their communities that serve those of us who are less privileged. They nurture and educate where needed. The Junior League is a non-profit, International organization, with chapters in the US, Canada, Mexico and the United Kingdom. There are a few chapters right here in Westchester. The Junior League of Westchester on the Sound serves the Sound Shore communities. The Junior League of Central Westchester serves communities such as Scarsdale and White Plains. There is the Junior League of Bronxville, and also the Junior League of Northern Westchester. This month, two of these chapters will be having events that honor community and League leaders and volunteers.
The Junior League of Northern Westchester will host its 6th Annual Around the World in 80 Wines Gala on Friday, March 23, 2012 from 7:00pm – 11:00pm at Brynwood Golf & Country Club in Armonk, NY. There will be a VIP sparkling wine tasting followed by a second tasting spotlighting dozens of wine varieties provided by Mt. Kisco Wines & Spirit. There will also be a full cocktail hour and sit-down dinner, along with music, entertainment and raffle prizes. The 2012 JLNW’s Civic and Community Leadership Award will be presented to John Crabtree, owner of Crabtree’s Kittle House. Mr. Crabtree serves on the Board of Directors for Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Hudson Valley, the United Way of Westchester and Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester.
Proceeds from the event go towards JLNW’s continuing efforts in voluntarism, and community issue based projects. The Junior League of Northern Westchester works with community partners to provide healthy living strategies for school-aged children and their families in the communities of Northern Westchester. In turn, it helps to reduce hunger in those communities.
Tickets may be purchased on the website at www.jlnw.org.
