Across Yonkers, more students than ever before are choosing the path to college, due in part to the services provided by Yonkers Partners in Education (YPIE). Since 2008, visits to the YPIE centers increased from 2,000 to 17,000 per year; 900 students have participated in formal SAT preparation, and college-bound seniors saw a $16 million increase in scholarship awards. On October 11, 2012, Yonkers Partners in Education will celebrate five years of improving outcomes for students at its Annual Gala, from 6:00 to 8:30 pm in a luxury tent on the rooftop of the Cross County Shopping Center in Yonkers. More than 400 people are expected to attend.
Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano will be honored, and several students will share their stories of pursuing their college dream with YPIE’s support. Guests will enjoy the fine cuisine of renowned chef and Yonkers native Peter Kelly, owner of The Xavier’s Restaurant Group, and musical entertainment courtesy of The Amish Outlaws. A silent auction, offering items like a luxury beachfront suite in Cabo San Lucas and VIP tickets to New Year’s Eve in Times Square, will take place online September 27th through October 8th, and continue live the evening of the gala.
“We’re extremely proud of the tangible results we have achieved for students during the last five years,” said YPIE Executive Director Wendy Nadel. “Our presence and support in the Yonkers schools has made college a reality for hundreds of students who otherwise may not have even considered it a possibility.”
Tickets are $200; $100 for Yonkers faculty and parents. Sponsorships are also available. Both can be purchased online or by calling (914) 377-4882.
