Here at WestchesterHappening.com, we LOVE the holidays! The spirit, the festive atmosphere…family and friends coming together to share joy and wonder! But how many families are there in Westchester that cannot afford the type of holiday that many of us take for granted? This year, we invite you to give back just a little for the season. We present to you our Guide to “do something good” for the holidays. Here is Part Three…our Focus on OUR TROOPS OVERSEAS AND THEIR NEEDS, and information on how to get involved!
We are firm believers in the phrase “Freedom isn’t Free”, and for those of us at WH, we know that our troops make the ultimate sacrifice to protect us here at home in the US, and preserve our rights as Americans. For many service people and their families, the holidays can be an extra-tough time of year with sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, moms and dads serving overseas in our forces.
Amazingly enough, it is the simplest of things that make our troops feel appreciated during the holiday season, and all year long. The things that we consider necessities, such as batteries, mouthwash and pens, are little luxuries to a service person out in the dessert, or on assignment in hostile areas. Steve Topilnycky, of the MARINE CORPS LEAGUE has offered detailed guidelines for creating and sending care packages to our troops. Here, on the website for the MCL of Westchester, you will find a list of items that are frequently requested by our service people. There are also tips on the sizing of packages, methods for shipment, and information on contacting the MCL to send your packages. And…no time to shop? Well, a monetary donation is always appreciated as well, and is tax-deductible! For another donation site, visit www.operationmonkey.com.
So, this year, say thanks to a soldier…and make their holiday one which they can enjoy on their end too.
