Cool digs, hot cuisine at Bartaco

The Westchester restaurant scene is buzzing with talk of a late 2010 addition to the ever-growing Port Chester dining scene- Bartaco. This simple-yet-hip taco bar gives restaurant patrons an all-encompassing experience, mixing excellent food with an unforgettable environment.

While enjoying fresh & authentic tacos and small bites, Bartaco transports diners to the environment of an isolated beach resort, with an open kitchen and a large bar surrounded by tables at the center of the room. We got the chance to check out the hot new restaurant for a sunny Sunday lunch a couple weeks back.

Every corner of Bartaco has been transformed to fit their o-so-cool beach theme.   The open kitchen, large wooden bar, and high ceilings add to the airy & spacious feel of the inside of the restaurant.  Stepping outside onto the deck, the Bartaco vibe doesn’t skip a beat. With white-washed low tables & short navy-blue cushioned seats, the deck overlooking the marina achieves its goal of transporting it’s diners to cool & calm vacation-like world, far away from the troubles of everyday.  Even sitting in the hot afternoon sun & on seats far too small for our 6’3″ friend, our group was happy to escape atop the Bartaco deck.

Next up was drinks! We sampled a variety of cocktails including our favorites- the Mojitos &  Port Chester Riverer (gin + mango nectar+ cucumber + mint + lime juice) as well as some of their craft beers.  Also noteworthy, Bartaco offers Tequila tasting flights!

Just like it’s simple vibe, Bartaco keeps the process of ordering food low key & unique.  In addition to classic menus, each table is provided with a paper version to check off their orders to hand over to the waitress or waiter. Simple as pie!

Our group of 6 opted to let the chef arrange a variety of tacos for the table by ordering two large platters at $33 a piece.  The platters not only came with a variety of amazing tacos, including fish; chicken; pork; portabello; & beef fillings (we opted out of the more adventurous chorizo, lamb, & pork belly options), but each platter also included a choice of 2 sides and a giant vat of delicious guacamole. Yum!!

More often than not, I find that a new restaurant doesn’t live up to it’s hype, but that was certainly NOT the case at Bartaco. We cannot wait until our next delicious taco escape!
