The New York regional premiere of Dogfight will take place September 19-21 at the White Plains Performing Arts Center following a recent run Off Broadway. Dogfight is a new musical written by TONY Nominees Benj Pasek & Justin Paul (A Christmas Story) with a book by Peter Duchan — based on the blockbuster 1991 Warner Bros. film starring River Phoenix and Lili Taylor; screenplay written by Bob Comfort.
On November 21, 1963, a group of young marines are gathered in San Fransisco the night before they ship off to Vietnam. They decide to celebrate their last night of freedom with a cruel game they call a “dogfight” where every man sets out to find the ugliest girl he can and brings her to a party. Everyone puts in money, and the man with the ugliest date wins the pot. When Eddie meets idealistic waitress Rose Fenny in a diner, she changes the rules of the game and teaches him the power of compassion.
“Dogfight is an intensely powerful musical and vital part of our progressive, eclectic programming here at the White Plains Performing Arts Center,” said WPPAC Producing Artistic Director Jeremy Quinn.
A hauntingly beautiful musical praised by countless critics and nominated for nearly every award available including winning the Lucille Lortel Award for Best Musical, Dogfight will be presented at the White Plains Performing Arts Center with Harrison Summer Theater; the company who also produced the well-received Spring Awakening and Bare at WPPAC.
