Ok, so we know the song usually uses the word “Bear”, but for this new-to-New Rochelle shop, its all about the BEER! Oh, that fabulous brew…enjoyed by so many for centuries. Beer is in vogue right now, and may be edging out the ever-popular wine for first place in both the categories of drink, and hobby. There are so many micro-breweries popping up lately, and the sale of home-brew kits is skyrocketing!
If its that taste of hops and malt you crave, head on over to BEER NECESSITIES, in the Quaker Ridge Shopping Center, on Quaker Ridge Road in the north end of New Rochelle. Leave it to the owners of the neighboring shop, THE GRAPE EXCHANGE to provide your every beery wish this holiday season, and beyond. Step inside, and visit the “wall of beer”…a plethora of beer bottles and brands that will boggle your mind.
The fun part is being able to choose among the brews to create your own custom six-pack, just perfect for that hostess (or host) gift as you make your seasonal rounds. Or, create a fabulous gift basket, including not only that comforting brew, but cheeses and other culinary goodies to round out a fantastic and tasty array. They carry a dazzling display of cheeses, both domestic and imported.
Have you ever heard of a “Growler”? Nope…its not a new horror movie genre, or a show on Animal Planet. As per WikiPedia, a “growler is a glass jug with a capacity of 0.5 US gallons (1,900 ml) used to transport draft beer in Australia, the United States and Canada. They are commonly sold at breweries and brewpubs as a means to sell take-out beer. Some breweries also offer a one-litre or one-quart version. Growlers are generally made of glass and have either a screw-on cap or a hinged porcelain gasket cap, which can provide freshness for a week or more. A properly sealed growler will hold carbonation indefinitely and will store beer like any other sanitized bottle. Some growler caps are equipped with valves to allow replacement of CO2 lost while racking.” How’s that for scientifically technical? Never knew beer could be so complex, but yes Virginia, there is a Growler station at BEER NECESSITIES that will please the most serious beer afficionado among us all.
