The second annual Harbor Island Annual International Beer Festival will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2015, from 12-5 PM, in Harbor Island Park, located in Mamaroneck, New York. The event, sponsored by Half Time, the world’s largest retailer of domestic and international beers, will present more than 150 breweries offering over 300 beers from around the world. This year’s International Beer Festival is sure to draw thousands of attendees eager to learn about and sample who’s new on the craft beer and cider scene, as no less than twenty new breweries and cider companies will make their debut at Harbor Island.
“What makes this festival unique is that some of the greatest beers from the most amazing breweries in the world including those from Belgium, Germany, England, France and Czechoslovakia will be on tap for sampling,” says Alan Daniels, CEO of Half Time. “Furthermore, many of the Trappist breweries can also be sampled, the ones the Monks make in their monasteries over in Belgium. Big American craft favorites like Dogfish, Lagunitas, Stone, Founders, Bells, Ballast Point, and Sierra Nevada, as well as many other top breweries will be sampling their beers as well.”
To help celebrate this year’s Harbor Island International Beer Festival, Sloop will be brewing a special batch of their new 30-barrel brewery. Also coming is Two Roads Brewery, operated by some of the industry’s finest craftsmen including Phil Markowski, who has been around the industry many years and has crafted some of the more interesting and tasty elixirs to date. Word has it that America’s first brewery, Matthew Vassar Brewing Company, may be in attendance and they are diligently working on their first large batch of beer for the public’s inaugural consumption.
The October 3rd event will feature some of NY’s hottest food vendors like Smoke House serving up some tasty BBQ, Salsa Fresca offering a taste of Mexico, Dub Pies meat pies just like they made them in New Zealand, Eat Morris will be on hand making their famous grilled cheeses, and Dough Nation will make your mouth water for some good old pizza Naples’ style. To satisfy everyone’s sweet tooth, Penny Lick Ice Cream Company and New York’s own The Dessertist will be on hand along with live entertainment and wonderful views of the harbor and the Long Island Sound.
Several breweries, both small and large, have begun creating a special brew just for this event. Some beers will be introduced at the festival for the first time. And for those interested in getting a better handle on the craft beer movement, presentations and seminars will be led by some of the industry’s best known in the field of brewing, home brewing, growing hops and a special presentation by the Culinary Institute of America on pairing beer with food and desert.
Half Time, who is sponsoring the event, recently opened their new store just down the street from Harbor Island Park and has already earned the reputation as having the world’s largest beer store boasting over 20,000 square feet of everything relating to beer. Last year’s festival drew over 5,000 craft beer lovers from over ten states and as far as California.
The Westchester Knicks, the feeder team for the New York Knicks, will be part of a special event featuring basketballs and hoops and a chance to interact with team members. Half Time will be providing a separate area for a Corn Hole Competition with great prizes and a few other things to do which are remaining close to the vest.
The Harbor Island venue, named Winner for “Best Park in Westchester, New York” is a park surrounded by the Long Island Sound with a capacity for 35,000 attendees.
